Fluid–structure‐interaction simulations of forming‐air impact thermoforming

The authors present a thermally and dynamically coupled fluid–structure-interaction (FSI) model of thermoforming process variant along with simulation results. By purposeful arrangement the inlet nozzles, under consideration seeks to improve deformation behavior plastic sheet made polyvinyl chloride (PVC), ultimately leading more uniform wall thickness distribution. In order capture complex interaction between deforming turbulent flow field in pressure box, numerical must realistically reproduce both fluid solid domain accurately handle coupling participants. Detailed information is provided on modeling aspects particular domain. Wall distributions obtained from experiments for two test cases are compared results generated using varying parametrizations model. general line experimental measurements, although some peculiarities measured data could not be reproduced. Despite its limitations concerning accuracy computational cost, holistic approach FSI appears helpful tool investigating due detailed resolution inflation time space.
